We're on vacation!

We're out of town for a friend's wedding, but our kids are still home! How does that work? Scott's mom came to Colorado Springs to take care of our kids. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We are soooo lucky to be able to get away for a bit!

So we flew into Reno on Tuesday afternoon, but it was not easy getting there. Maintenance delays, missed flights...we were re-routed through LAX, which I am pretty sure is where movie directors get their inspiration for end-of-the-world movies. The whole place looked like a dead zone as we descended. The up-side? On the way in, we flew directly over the Grand Canyon, and on the way out we flew directly over Yosemite.

Then we drove from Reno to Marin County so that we could stay a night with a friend and visit my grandma the next morning. We participated in the wedding preparations, Scott scanning and cropping photos and me making place cards to be tied onto cute little orange and white pumpkins. We took an amazing hike up from Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands (crazy surfers in wetsuits, dogs having the times of their lives romping on the beach). We chatted with my grandma who implored us to start sending her letters (which will be great writing practice for the girls).

The big wedding is tomorrow in Tahoe, so we drove up here from Marin, stopping along the way at our favorite non-Colorado destinations (In-n-Out Burger, Trader Joe's, and Ikea top the list). We hiked in the Desolation Wilderness yesterday, watched bears eating spawning salmon in Taylor Creek, and enjoyed drinks with old friends.

Scott is so relaxed he's not thinking about work. I have a box of dark chocolate from Trader Joe's, my computer, my camera, and the beauty of Tahoe around me. Life is good.

Those pictures are ridiculous!! How did you get so close to the bears!?!?

And please, next time you are in the Bay Area, leave a tiny bit of spare time and I will meet you where ever you are! :)

Hi, Stacy! I thought about you while we were in CA. Unfortunately, we flew into Reno, arrived in Marin at 7:30pm, and left to go back to Tahoe around noon the next day. Not enough time. :(

The bears were way too comfortable around people. Partly because they were distracted by the salmon buffet, probably partly because they are used to people. A little sad.
